Deep Causal Inference for Average Treatment Effect Estimation of Poems Popularity
نویسنده
چکیده
Poetry is a complex art form. This research is focused on exploring and understanding poetry better by using deep learning. On one hand, there are many different styles of writing a poem, and on the other only a small fraction of poems end up passing the test of time and becoming popular. The objective of this work is to find the causal relationship (if any) between the poem style and it’s popularity. In particular, this project answers the following question: Does a specific rhythm in a poem makes it more popular?

Matching and Propensity Scores
The popularity of matching techniques has increased considerably during the last decades. They are mainly used for matching treatment and control units in order to estimate causal treatment effects from observational studies or for integrating two or more data sets that share a common subset of covariates. In focusing on causal inference with observational studies, we discuss multivariate match...

This paper presents an information theory-driven matching methodology for making causal inference from observational data. The paper adopts a “potential outcomes framework” view on evaluating the strength of cause-effect relationships: the population-wide average effects of binary treatments are estimated by comparing two groups of units – the treated and untreated (control). To reduce the bias...
متن کاملDoubly robust estimation of the local average treatment effect curve.
We consider estimation of the causal effect of a binary treatment on an outcome, conditionally on covariates, from observational studies or natural experiments in which there is a binary instrument for treatment. We describe a doubly robust, locally efficient estimator of the parameters indexing a model for the local average treatment effect conditionally on covariates V when randomization of t...
متن کاملEstimation of causal effects of fertility on economic wellbeing: Evidence from rural Vietnam
Estimating the effects of demographic events on households’ living standards introduces a range of statistical issues. In this paper we analyze this topic considering our observational study as a quasi-experiment in which the treatment is expressed by childbearing events between two time points and the outcome is the change in equivalized household consumption expenditure. Our main question con...
متن کاملElements of estimation theory for causal effects in the presence of network interference
Randomized experiments in which the treatment of a unit can affect the outcomes of other units are becoming increasingly common in healthcare, economics, and in the social and information sciences. From a causal inference perspective, the typical assumption of no interference becomes untenable in such experiments. In many problems, however, the patterns of interference may be informed by the ob...
